Gene Firth, President
From the time he was a young child, Gene would take apart everything in the house to figure out how it works. From small appliances to television sets, he just always liked the inner workings. As a child he once designed and built a hang glider out of an old tent and "allowed" his brother Randy to be the first one to try it out by jumping off the top of the house. Although that invention didn't work out so well for him, or his brother Randy, the fascination for designing and building never left him. He never liked hiring someone to build or repair something for him, he would prefer to try and do it himself. All of this is why the remodeling/building came so natural for him.
Working in the construction industry for more than 30 years, Gene has applied the values of Honesty and Integrity to business, living by the mantra “always try to do the right thing.”
In the early days of his career, working in the real estate and residential construction industry, Gene saw the need in our community to change the perception of many homeowner’s in regard to construction workers, and to provide quality people and service second to none.
This ultimately led Gene and his brother Randy to establish Total Home Improvements.
Gene is heavily invested in the community having served on several church boards. When not in the office there’s a good chance you’ll find Gene either with his family, or with a fishing rod, or both.

Randy Firth, Vice President
Randy is one of the owners of Total Home Improvements, which he and his brother Gene opened in 1991. He works with the sales team, which currently operate out of a separate location than the main office. A new office is planned, in which time everything will operate from that new location. He has always enjoyed the sales end of the business and for many years acted as the only salesman for the company. He still goes on a few sales appointments, but mostly supports the sales team. He likes interacting with people and possesses excellent verbal and written skills.
His interests include football,racing, fishing and cars. He is a die hard Denver Broncos fan and John Elway is his all time favorite player. His NASCAR driver is Kevin Harvick, who he follows closely and has been to many races. He grew up on the water, with many of his family members being watermen. He enjoys fishing, boating and pretty much anything to do with the water. He likes car shows and being around all types of cars. Muscle cars are probably his favorite, but he also enjoys original antique cars as well as new styles of cars with the ever changing technology.
He has a passion for politics and tries to keep up with current events surrounding politics as well as other issues. He has a grown daughter who lives in the area and operates a barn with 16 horses. Although he doesn't ride at all, he enjoys spending time with her and at some of the horse shows. He is a dog lover and consider his 14 pound Pekingese/Chihuahua, who he calls Denver, his baby boy. Denver of course because of his love for the Denver Broncos. He likes to take him everywhere possible, but struggles with his constant shedding. Randy is from Poquoson, but resides in York County, where he has lived in the same house for over 20 years.
Frank Griffin, Design / Sales Consultant
The personal side of Total Home Improvements and their presence in the community are what have cemented Frank as part of our team. In his words, “It’s more than sticks and bricks to us.” With more than 25 years’ experience and a dedication to excellence and integrity, Frank provides insightful designs for our clients.
Kenny G. Thomas, Design / Sales Consultant
Kenny is one of the newer members of our team; however, his more than 25 years’ experience provide a breadth of knowledge to THI. In his own words, “Having been part of this community for the entirety of my life, I consider it a privilege to be invited into the homes of my friends and neighbors and help them see their projects to fruition.”
Matt Stuffel, Design / Sales Consultant
Out-of-the-box thinking, fine attention to detail, and in-depth design experience provide Matt (and our clients) a distinct advantage when it comes to home projects. Matt prides himself on being personally involved throughout his remodeling projects. While other companies may shuffle you through several different people during your pre-construction/design process, “I will walk you through the entire process myself,” says Matt. His hands-on approach delivers better communication and more effective idea generation.
Chezarae Almond, Design / Sales Consultant
With more than 10 years experience and having the qualifications to be a Class "A" contractor herself, Chezarae is well versed in all aspects of construction. In her own words, I bring a signifcant design sense to all of my projects and I'm there for my clients whenever they need from start to finish."
She also stays current with design trends and construction innovations to ensure her clients get the solutions and results for their projects that is best for them.
Jesse Wyatt, Design / Sales Consultant
Jesse Wyatt is a Design/Construction Consultant with over 40 years of experience serving the Hampton Roads remodeling industry. He has the knowledge to assist homeowners with kitchens, bathrooms, additions, and second story in-law suites. Any phase of renovations pertaining to the house, he is qualified. Jesse has a passion for assisting in a manner that he ensures getting the best value for the investment. Most importantly the relationship he develops during and after construction is his goal. Jesse is married to Vickie and they have 15 grandchildren that they enjoy spending time with. He enjoys playing golf and volunteering at church.
Kristi Rogers, Selection Coordinator
Barry Ballard, Production Coordinator
Barry puts his 18+ years’ experience to support his Project Mangers, meet with home owners, and help get our projects across the finish line. He not only is concerned that jobs get done on-time, but also about the homeowner’s satisfaction and the quality work.
For the most part, evening and weekends, you will find Barry spending time with his kids.
Kenny Brown, Production Manager
Another veteran and pro of the construction industry with more than 30 years’ experience, Kenny received his Master Carpenters license from the Associated Builders and Contractors of America back in 1990.
Managing the production boards, Kenny tracks all phases of work on THI’s jobsites; however, believes and trusts in his project managers and their ability to make decisions on the jobsites as needed.
He also values straight forward and honest communication with homeowners.
In his own words, Kenny is a “rabid fan” of Indiana Hoosiers Basketball and all sports professional in Detroit. He is also a huge supporter of Christopher Newport Men’s Soccer, and Old Dominion Football.
Neil Firth, Project Manager
Neil is a Project Manager and Lead Carpenter extraordinaire. He has been part of the THI team for more than 16 years. In his 22 years in the construction industry Neil has developed an in depth knowledge of all aspects of construction from footings to roofs, and is also a Certified Wolf Pro.
Outdoors is where you’ll likely find Neil when not on the job. Boating and fishing are top on the list of favorite activities.
Gregory S. Rankin, Project Manager
In 34 years working in construction, there’s not much Greg has not seen. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience as well as a keen attention to detail on the projects he manages. He has received numerous awards from the Daily Press, PHBA, Habitat for Humanity, and more.
A Dallas Cowboys fan through and through, he also enjoy food, fishing and family. On clear evenings, you might find Gregory checking out the stars and planets.
Douglas Burmeister, Project Manager
For more than 23 years, Douglas has brought quality, dependability, trust and cleanliness to his work in construction. As dependable as they come and a good communicator, he is an efficient Project Manager able to work well with and develop lasting relationships with homeowners.
It’s been a while since Jim Kelley led the Buffalo Bill’s to 4 consecutive Super Bowls, but that hasn’t stopped Douglas from being an avid Bills fan. Maybe next year!
Kris Heath, Project Manager
Kris Heath has developed a great attention to detail in his more than 22 years in construction.
His experience is varied, not only in the type of work he has done, ranging from new construction to restorations and everything in between, but also in that he has worked on projects across the United States.
He has been recognized by the National Historical Society for time period correct restoration on the Mifflinburg Buggy Museum in Pennsylvania. He is certified in drafting and architectural drawing as well as GAF and Certainteed Certified.
He is a Tar Heels fan who enjoys surfing, fishing, and an occasional golf game. He believes "Everything happens for a reason."
John Osborne, Project Manager
John comes to Total Home with more than 35 years of experience in the industry.
He prides himself on making sure all of his customers are 100% satisfied with the work that has been performed under his management.
Leonard Hall, Project Manager
With more than 25 years experience, Leonard Hall is an expert in interior trim and cabinetry. His word on kitchens and trim have been awarded by Parade of Homes.
He is a true outdoorsman who enjoys fishing, camping and kayaking.
